Swift intervention by the Oyo State Fire Service yesterday saved a duplex in Ibadan from being completely destroyed after a fire broke out early in the morning.
The incident, which occurred around 2:00 a.m. at Lane 2, Oluyole Estate, started in the sitting room of the residential building. Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed that the blaze was caused by an electrical surge from an unattended appliance. He said the rapid response of firefighters prevented the flames from spreading beyond the sitting room.
“Immediately the address was taken, a crew of fire personnel led by ACFS Adedeji promptly responded and deployed to the scene of the fire incident. Upon arrival, it was discovered that the sitting room of a duplex residential building was on fire.
“The firemen swiftly swung into action and curtailed and restricted the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. The fire was completely extinguished within the twinkle of an eye,” he said.
Akinwande added that while some items in the sitting room were damaged, the rest of the building and other properties worth millions of naira were preserved. He also confirmed that no life was lost in the incident.
