Insecurity: Gov Yusuf welcomes Tinubu’s emergency declaration on security

Worried by the spate of terrorist incursions across the country, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of national emergency on security.

Besides, Governor Yusuf assured that Kano is taking full steps to hunt down the rising bandit incursion in some local government areas of the state, which the criminals are terrorising.

Yusuf spoke at the opening of the 34th Executive Council Meetings on Thursday, where he reaffirmed readiness to confront the security threat with all necessary measures it deserves.

The nationwide declaration of emergency on security came in the wake of rising kidnapping and cattle rustling by bandits in communities in Shanonon, Bagwai and Tsanyawa local government areas of Kano bordering Katsina State.

Although the activities of the bandits were repelled a few weeks ago in Shanonon, where the troops of the Nigerian Army neutralised 19 bandits and intercepted their weapons, the criminality resurfaced with the recent kidnapping of 10 villagers.

Governor Yusuf believed President Tinubu’s quick intervention to curb the activities of bandits and criminal elements across the country was timely and apt.

He stressed that the government is receiving all the necessary support from the state’s security agencies, and that together they would address the unfortunate situation.

“We understand that the bandits are taking advantage of Tsanyawa, Shanono, Bagwai and other bordering villages to strike, but we are taking every necessary measure to ensure that Kano remains safe.

“We have sat down with the security personnel and mapped out strategies on how to tackle the emerging bandit threats. By this and so many other actions we have taken, I’m asking our good people of Kano to remain calm.

“We welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national declaration of a state of emergency on security. We considered the declaration as bold and necessary for the betterment of all Nigerians. We pledged Kano State’s full cooperation with all security agencies in implementing the federal directive,” he said.

Speaking on the recent presentation of proposed appropriation, tagged “Budget of infrastructure, inclusive growth, and sustainable development,” the governor reaffirms the administration’s resolve to promote fiscal responsibility and strengthen key sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, and urban development.

He described government sponsorship of a scholarship scheme as a strategic investment in human capital aimed at nurturing a generation of innovators and future leaders equipped to drive socio-economic transformation.

He also commended the Kano Correspondents Chapel of the NUJ for their ethical standards and professional reporting of developments in the state, assuring them of continued support.

The chapel had earlier decorated the governor with a customised lapel as ambassador of the chapel while presenting items of souvenirs.
