Jigawa State Governor, Malam Umar A. Namadi, has suspended his Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Dalladi Sankara, following allegations of adultery.
The governor has also constituted a five-member panel of investigation into the arrest of Sankara and his supposed involvement in the act of adultery.
The investigative committee will be chaired by the Secretary to the Government, with the following members: the Honorable Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture; the Honorable Commissioner for Basic Education, Lawal Yunusa Danzomo; the Special Adviser on Security Matters; and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor, who will serve as the secretary of the committee.
The committee has been given two weeks to submit its report on the investigation.
The Guardian reports that the Kano State Hisbah Board confirmed the arrest of Sankara on Friday after he was caught with a married woman in a secluded area in the state.
Sankara, a serving commissioner for Special Duties, in Jigawa State and son to a former senator, was said to have been found in the act in his vehicle parked in the uncompleted building.
Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, who confirmed to journalists, disclosed that the Jigawa politician was arrested along with the married woman after intelligence information.
Sufi explained that Hisbah swung into action to uncover the illicit act after receiving a series of complaints about the act of adultery from a younger brother to the husband of the woman involved.
Sankara, in a statement on Saturday, claimed he was not arrested by Hisbah just as he threatened to take legal action against those peddling the story.
However, a statement by Ismail Ibrahim Dutse, Public Relations Officer, Office of the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State said Sankara has been suspended.
According to the statement, Sankara’s suspension comes in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the State Administration.
“The SSG emphasised the commitment to accountability and adherence to ethical standards in governance by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi.
“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation. We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government,” the statement read.
