No fewer than 278 motorcycles have been impounded by the Lagos State Task Force across the state as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security, protect lives and property, and prevent the activities of criminal elements.
The seizures were carried out in a week-long enforcement operation, during which several commercial motorcycle operators were also apprehended while illegally plying highways and restricted routes in disregard of public safety.
Spokesperson for the agency, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, said some were using motorcycles to transport illicit substances and hazardous items such as petroleum products and gas, while others conveyed school children and toddlers in unsafe conditions on major roads.
Chairman of the agency, Adetayo Akerele, said all impounded motorcycles would be processed for forfeiture to the state through the courts, in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.
