The Rivers State Police Command has launched a manhunt for the killers of the Chief Security Officer of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Richard Timothy-Jaminiwa, and his 23-year-old son, Tola Silas.
A statement by the police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed that the victims were ambushed and shot dead by unidentified gunmen at their residence in Igwuruta, Port Harcourt, at about 11:40 p.m. on January 31, 2025.
According to Iringe-Koko, four gunmen attacked the 59-year-old Timothy and his son, shooting them in the head. Despite efforts by officers of the Igwuruta Division, who responded swiftly to a report by the victim’s daughter, Omolara, the victims succumbed to their injuries. Police recovered three expended AK-47 ammunition from the scene.
Eyewitness accounts and statements from the victim’s widow, Grace, revealed that the attack occurred earlier at about 7:00 p.m., as Richard was returning home. A group of about seven gunmen dressed in black ambushed him as he drove into his compound.
In an emotional account, Grace said the attackers killed her husband and son before abducting her into a nearby bush. She alleged that the attack may have been targeted, citing threats her husband had received due to his stance against the looting of properties at the stadium.
The incident has left the Igwuruta Ali community in shock and mourning.
Iringe-Koko assured the public that the police were making concerted efforts to apprehend the perpetrators. She said, “The Commissioner of Police has directed the deployment of all necessary intelligence to track down the suspects and ensure justice is served.”
The police urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation.
