Millions lost as fire razes part of Lagos staff quarters
A fire broke out in the early hours of Friday and gutted part of a two-story building at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters in the Ogba area of the state.

The incident reportedly occurred around 2:20 am at Flat 5, Block 21, a two-winged, three-storey building of 16 two-bedroom flats, located on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the fire originated from an electrical surge in the children’s room.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Femi Oke-Osanyitolu, confirmed that the fire completely destroyed the children’s bedroom, resulting in millions of naira in property losses.

Oke-Osanyitolu said that with the swift response of emergency services, the fire was contained and extinguished quickly, preventing any loss of life or injuries.
“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly. Fortunately, there was no loss of life or injuries sustained in the incident,” Oke-Osanyitolu confirmed.
“Also, victims and other occupants were enlightened on the proper use of electric appliances.”
