The mother of the late Ahmed Omolola has responded to allegations made by her daughter-in-law, Tosin Omolola, who recently accused her late husband’s family of harassment just eight days after his burial.

The controversy gained public attention after activist Harrison Gwamnishu highlighted Tosin’s claims on social media.

Following the development, the Lagos State Police Command arrested Ahmed’s father, David Omolola, on Thursday, July 30, 2026.

He was subsequently arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court on Friday, July 31, on a two-count charge of alleged assault and threat to life involving his daughter-in-law.

Speaking in a video at the weekend, the deceased’s mother dismissed claims that a viral video showing her 62-year-old husband locking the gate of a building depicted the house Ahmed left behind.

According to her, the footage was recorded in 2024 at their own residence and not at the property occupied by the late Ahmed and his wife.

She further alleged that after Ahmed became seriously ill, she and her husband took him, along with their grandchildren, into their home because, according to her, Tosin was not adequately caring for him.

She claimed that Tosin later came to their residence and caused a disturbance, prompting her husband to lock the gate in an attempt to prevent further commotion. She said it was during that incident that the now-viral video was recorded.

The deceased’s mother also accused Tosin of leaving Ahmed while he was ill, insisting that the family had to take responsibility for his care until his death.

Meanwhile, David Omolola was granted bail by the court but remains in police custody after failing to meet the bail conditions.

He is expected to regain his freedom once the conditions are fulfilled, which family members hope will be next week.
