NSCDC arrests car theft suspect in Niger

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Niger State Command, has arrested a suspected car thief in connection with a broad daylight vehicle snatching incident along the Zungeru–Tegina Road in Rafi Local Council of the state.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, the arrest followed credible intelligence from the NSCDC Tegina Divisional Office on September 6, 2025, at about 8:30 pm.

Muti disclosed that the swift operation led to the arrest of one suspect, identified as Ibrahim Sule, and the recovery of the stolen Honda CrossTour vehicle.

Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects, Azi Mu’azu, allegedly poisoned the driver to gain control of the vehicle. The command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining two suspects and bring them to justice.

The command assured that all suspects would be charged to court once investigations are concluded.

Niger State Commandant, Comdt. Suberu Siyaka Anuviye, commended the unwavering support of the NSCDC Commandant General, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, OFR, mni, for strengthening the Corps’ security operations.

He also appreciated Governor Umaru Mohammed Bago for his continuous support in ensuring a crime-free society.

The spokesperson added that the command will continue to work in synergy with other security agencies to protect lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.
