
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has expressed its condolences to the families, friends, and communities affected by the tragic petroleum truck explosion in Majiya, Taura Local Council of Jigawa State.
In a statement issued yesterday by NUPENG President Williams Akporeha and General Secretary Afolabi Olawale, the union expressed deep sadness over the loss of over 100 lives, destruction of property, and injuries sustained by many others in the devastating accident.
While standing in solidarity with the affected families, NUPENG commended the efforts of emergency responders, who managed to extinguish the fire and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
The union called on the relevant authorities to ensure that adequate support and medical care are provided to those injured, and urged measures to be put in place to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their loved ones during this highly traumatic and difficult time,” the statement read.
“We stand in solidarity with the affected families, the entire community of Majiya, and Jigawa State as a whole. May the souls of the departed rest in peace, and may their families find the strength to bear these irreparable losses.”
