Ogun govt suspends teacher, queries principal over pupil’s death
The Ogun State Government, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, has suspended a teacher accused of beating and punishing Master Monday Arijo, an SS2 student of Obada Grammar School, Obada, Idi-emi, allegedly leading to the student’s death.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, also resulted in the teacher’s immediate arrest.
The school principal, Mrs Tamrat Onaolapo, was swiftly issued a query for permitting corporal punishment on the student, which is against the state’s established rules and regulations.
She was given 24 hours to explain her actions and why disciplinary measures should not be taken against her for contravening the directives of the authorities.
A letter of condolence was subsequently sent to the bereaved family, expressing sympathy over the sudden loss of their son and assuring them that justice would be pursued.
The letter, signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, described the late student as an exceptional learner who would be deeply missed by his peers, the school, and the state as a whole.
It also offered prayers for the family’s strength to bear the irreplaceable loss and for the peaceful repose of the deceased’s soul.
