Ondo confirms release of abducted nine-year old, commends security agencies

Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa

The Ondo State Government has confirmed the release of nine-year-old Victor Oluwatobi, who was abducted three weeks ago in Idogun, Ose Local Government Area of the state.

Oluwatobi, the son of a pastor, was kidnapped by unknown gunmen who invaded Ugbosi Quarters in Idogun at midnight on Friday, June 5, 2026. The attackers also damaged two buildings in an attempt to abduct the landlords, who managed to escape.

Unfortunately, Pastor Oluwatobi was unable to get all his children to safety in time, leaving the boy, who was fast asleep during the invasion, behind.

Yesterday, through the joint efforts of security agencies, the child was rescued safely and reunited with his family.

During the period of his captivity, the Ondo State Government mobilised security agencies, including the Army, Police, Amotekun Corps and local vigilantes, who combed the forest day and night in search of the victim.

Residents have since commended the efforts of the governor and security agencies in securing his release.

The Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Idowu Ajanaku, who confirmed the development, appreciated the efforts of the security agencies and everyone who contributed to the successful rescue of the boy.

Speaking during a press briefing, Ajanaku expressed gratitude to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his prompt intervention and unwavering commitment throughout the period of the boy’s captivity.

He noted that the government’s swift response brought hope and reassurance to the victim’s family, the people of Idogun and residents across Ose Local Government Area.

While commending the resilience of the victim’s family during the difficult period, Ajanaku also praised all security agencies involved in the rescue operation for their professionalism, dedication and sacrifice.

He assured residents that the government remains committed to strengthening security across the state and ensuring the safety of lives and property.
