One person has been confirmed dead and three others injured after a two-storey building under construction collapsed on Sultan Road in Kano metropolis on Friday.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 a.m. while construction workers were on site.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to The Guardian.
“As a result of the collapse of the building, one person lost his life while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Abdullahi said.

He explained that emergency responders initially rescued three victims from the rubble while efforts continued to reach a fourth person trapped beneath the debris. The victim was later recovered dead.

Eyewitnesses said workers noticed signs that the building was becoming unstable and fled the site before it collapsed.
“The engineer noticed signs that the building was about to collapse, so the workers immediately ran for safety,” a witness, who identified himself simply as Yaro, said.

He added that three victims, including the site’s security guard and one of his friends, were rescued and taken to Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Specialist Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the collapse has yet to be officially determined, while authorities are expected to commence an investigation into the incident.
