One person has died while two others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle crash along New Road by Coastal Road, inward Jakande, Lagos, prompting the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) to renew its call on motorists to obey speed limits.

According to LASTMA, the accident involved a Mack flat-bed articulated trailer, a Toyota mini truck and two motorcycles.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the trailer driver, who was allegedly speeding, lost control and rammed into the moving Toyota mini truck. The impact caused the mini truck to somersault before crashing into one of the motorcycles.

The authority said one person died at the scene, while two others suffered varying degrees of injuries. The injured victims were rescued by LASTMA officials and other emergency responders before being taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

LASTMA said its personnel, who were on routine patrol along the Coastal Road corridor, swiftly secured the crash scene, managed traffic and coordinated rescue efforts. Security agencies were also alerted, while a recovery truck evacuated the damaged mini truck, allowing normal traffic flow to resume.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, expressed sadness over the loss of life, describing excessive speeding as a major cause of avoidable road crashes in Lagos.

He urged drivers, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to comply with speed limits, avoid reckless driving and remain vigilant while on the road.

Bakare-Oki also called on all road users to cultivate safe driving habits and obey traffic regulations, stressing that adherence to road safety rules remains critical to reducing accidents and saving lives across the state.
