Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun (FUHSI), Osun State, successfully hosted a three-day International Training Workshop on Public Health Planning for Hearing and Vision Impairment (PHPHVI) from April 13 to 15, 2026.
The workshop brought together global experts, policymakers, and health professionals to strengthen capacity and develop practical strategies for improving hearing and vision care, particularly in low-resource settings.
Declaring the workshop open, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Akeem Lasisi, highlighted the importance of integrating sensory health into public health systems to achieve inclusive and sustainable healthcare.
The training featured distinguished international faculty, including Dr. Okolo Oteri (Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Nigeria), Dr. Diego Santana (CBM Global, Spain), and Professor Andrew Smith (London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, UK), who led sessions on public health principles, training methodologies, and the implementation of Primary Ear and Hearing Care (PEHC).
Participants engaged in interactive sessions, practical demonstrations, and group work, culminating in the development and presentation of actionable project proposals aimed at improving service delivery in their respective regions.
The workshop ended with the presentation of certificates and a renewed commitment to advancing inclusive health systems and expanding access to hearing and vision care across Nigeria and beyond.
