Oyo governor halts demolition of properties along Ibadan Circular Road

Following protests by property owners, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has ordered an immediate halt to demolition and construction within densely populated areas of the Ibadan Circular Road.
Existing properties within the 500-metre setback will be integrated into the development plan, the governor assured residents.
Addressing protesters yesterday, Makinde acknowledged widespread misinformation regarding the government’s actions. He clarified that the 150-metre setback was initiated by the Lam Adesina administration and validated by Senator Rashidi Ladoja. In 2018, the late Abiola Ajimobi government acquired and gazetted a 500-metre setback.
Makinde said that only 75 metres on either side would be used as setbacks in densely populated areas.
He praised the protesters for their peaceful conduct and expressed confidence that the issue could be resolved amicably.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of its people and warned land grabbers to cease their illegal activities.
Responding, Olaniran Ereasalatu, the protesters’ coordinator, commended Makinde for listening to their concerns.
He pledged continued cooperation with the government and promised to adhere to its directives.
