The death toll of five people who died on Friday night at the Friday Market in Mangu, Plateau State, by gunmen has now risen to eight.

On Friday after 8.00 pm, the gunmen attacked the traders by shooting at them sporadically and instantly left five of them killed with others with heavy injuries.

In fact, the market is known to be one of the most bustling markets in the State. According to eyewitness ,the incident happened while traders and buyers had almost finished the business of the day and were parking up to leave.

The market people were flabbergasted at what was happening as they were witnessing it for the first time “We were shocked as this type of thing has never occurred before in this market “, a man expressed outrage and surprise.

The residents who said that some buyers who bought goods and some sellers who sold their goods all ended up losing .”‘The sellers of the goods lost their goods “.

A resident of Mangu who travelled to Jos on Sunday, Paul Musa, told The Guardian that three people killed from a different angle of the market who were not among the initial five counted made the total of eight killed in the attack .

He said that the next Friday market may not hold as people minds have not settled from the panic.

He added that the assurance and presence of armed security agencies will determine whether or not people will come to the market for business as usual.
