The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 60-year-old man in connection with an alleged sexual assault involving a minor in Toro Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect, identified as Musa Garba, was taken into custody after a formal complaint was lodged by the father of the victim at the Toro Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting immediate intervention by operatives.
According to police authorities, the report triggered swift investigative action, leading to the arrest of the suspect for questioning as detectives work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Habib, confirmed that preliminary investigations have commenced, adding that the case is being treated with urgency due to its sensitive nature and the need to ensure proper safeguarding of the victim.
The Command stated that the matter is being handled in line with its commitment to tackling offences involving minors and ensuring that due process is strictly followed in reaching a lawful conclusion.
Police investigators are currently gathering statements from relevant parties, while medical and forensic procedures, where necessary, are being undertaken as part of efforts to strengthen the investigation and establish facts.
The suspect remains in custody and is reportedly cooperating with investigators, while the case file is being compiled for possible prosecution once investigations are concluded.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police has strongly condemned incidents involving minors, reiterating the Command’s zero-tolerance policy towards sexual offences and reaffirming its resolve to ensure justice is served in accordance with the law.
