The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, over the alleged rape of an eight-year-old girl in Tsakanin Bayara, Bauchi metropolis.
Abubakar was arrested after the girl’s father reported the incident at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, at about 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.
According to the police, the incident occurred two days earlier, on Sunday, August 24, at about 11:00 a.m., when the suspect allegedly lured the girl into an uncompleted building in the area and sexually assaulted her.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, confirmed the arrest, saying operatives of the division apprehended the suspect following the report.
Habib said the suspect allegedly confessed to the offence during interrogation, while the victim was taken to a clinic for medical examination and necessary care.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged assault and assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated.
The suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, as investigators continue work on the case ahead of possible prosecution.
