The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 70-year-old man, Usman Abubakar, for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl in the Tsakanin Bayara area of Bauchi metropolis. The suspect was arrested following a report lodged at the ‘E’ Division, Yelwa, on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at about 11:30 a.m. by the victim’s father.

According to the police, the incident occurred on Sunday, August 24, at about 11:00 a.m., when the suspect allegedly lured the girl to an uncompleted building within the area and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, said operatives of the division arrested the suspect. Adding that during interrogation, Abubakar confessed to the offence. The victim was subsequently taken to the clinic for medical examination and necessary care.

The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the alleged act and assured members of the public that the matter would be thoroughly investigated. The suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, where the case is undergoing discreet investigation preparatory to prosecution.

The command reiterated its zero tolerance for sexual violence and child abuse, while urging parents, guardians and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station promptly.
