Police in Ogun State have arrested four suspected cultists over alleged assault, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm and theft of an iPhone 14 Pro Max in Ilaro.
The suspects — Samson John, 25; Olufowora Michael, 28; Odeh Samuel Ejeh, 25; and Olajide Jeremiah, 28 — were apprehended following a report lodged at a police station at about 11:30 p.m. on April 16, 2026.
The command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the complainant reported that at about 1:00 p.m. the same day, John and six others went to his residence, where he was assaulted, threatened with an axe and robbed of his mobile phone.
“Upon swift response and subsequent investigation by operatives, the suspects were apprehended,” he said, adding that a locally made pistol, an axe, suspected charms and the stolen phone were recovered.
He noted that the suspects remain in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the group. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism.
He reiterated the command’s stance against cultism and violent crime, and urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through official emergency lines.
