The Yobe State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspected burglar and motorcycle thief, Lukman Yunusa, and recovered five stolen motorcycles in Potiskum, Yobe State.

The command disclosed that the motorcycles were allegedly stolen from Gombe, Bauchi, and Yobe states.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dungus Abdulkarim, revealed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Damaturu.

According to him, operatives attached to the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters acted on credible intelligence regarding the activities of a suspect believed to be involved in household burglary, theft, and motorcycle snatching across parts of the three states.

Abdulkarim said the police successfully traced and arrested Yunusa, who resides in Potiskum, a town located along the Damaturu–Kano Expressway.

The suspect was apprehended on March 3, 2026, at about 1:10 p.m., following what the police described as a well-coordinated operation.

During preliminary investigations, the suspect reportedly confessed to the crimes, which led investigators to recover five motorcycles out of the 10 he allegedly stole since the start of his criminal activities in the North-East region.

The recovered motorcycles are currently in police custody, while efforts are underway to identify and contact their rightful owners.

Police authorities said investigations are ongoing to recover the remaining five stolen motorcycles and arrest other members of the suspected criminal syndicate.

The command reiterated its zero tolerance for criminal activities, stressing its commitment to sustaining operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, commended members of the public for their cooperation and support, urging residents to remain vigilant, safeguard their property, and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police station.
