The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 34-year-old man, Ukong Abraham, over unlawful possession of a firearm in Ikom Local Council.
The arrest followed a complaint lodged on April 15, 2026, by a 22-year-old woman, Delight Benjamin, who alleged that the suspect assaulted her and caused bodily harm. Acting on the report, detectives from the Ikom Police Division moved to invite the suspect for questioning.
Police said the suspect fled on sighting the operatives in an attempt to evade arrest, prompting a coordinated manhunt. He was later tracked and apprehended through what the command described as an intelligence-driven operation.
During interrogation, a search of the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, raising concerns about possible involvement in other criminal activities.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of his actions and whether he is linked to other offences in the area.
The command reiterated its commitment to public safety, stressing its resolve to curb the proliferation of illegal arms across the state. It urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements or activities.
Residents were also advised to use the command’s emergency lines or report directly to the nearest police station to support ongoing efforts to maintain law and order.
