Police arrest suspected kidnappers in Delta as PASNAFOSA hails interception of camouflage, others

Suspects

The Delta State Police Command has arrested four suspected kidnapperss and armed robbery suspects and recovered a locally fabricated firearm in separate operations across the state, command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, has said.

Meanwhile, the Prayer and Support for theNigerian Armed Forces and Other Security Agencies (PASNAFOSA) has commended the police for its vigilance, professionalism, and operational effectiveness, particularly in relation to the recent interception of a truckload of military camouflage, firearms, and illicit substances in Lagos State.

The group, through its convener, Ambassador Mary Abayomi-Fatile, noted that the recovery and public display of the seized items demonstrate the command’s strong commitment to combating crime and protecting national security.

Edafe disclosed that the success was made possible by the command’s intelligence-led operations and collaboration with local communities in the fight against violent crimes. According to Edafe, on June 23, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m., the police received a report concerning the arrest of two suspects allegedly involved in an attempted robbery.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that one of the suspects unlawfully entered a residential compound but fled after discovering that the occupants were present,” Edafe said. “The suspects remain in police custody as investigators work to determine whether they are linked to other criminal activities within and outside the area.”

In a separate operation, operatives of the ‘A’ Division, Ughelli, in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group, have arrested two suspected kidnappers connected to a failed abduction attempt on June 19, 2026. The suspects, identified as Iliyasu Hassan, 16, and Idris Abdulkarim, 32, were apprehended on June 22, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m. after emerging from a nearby forest to purchase food and medication.

The police said a victim of an earlier kidnapping incident identified the two suspects as members of the gang that attacked and abducted him, strengthening the case against them.

The agency added that the suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue, and efforts have been intensified to track down other members of the criminal gang and recover weapons allegedly used in their operations.

PASNAFOSA also applauded the arrest of 38 foreign nationals in the Epe area of Lagos, saying the arrest reflects proactive policing in identifying and neutralising potential threats before they manifest into security breaches capable of endangering lives and undermining public safety.

PASNAFOSA described the operation as a clear demonstration of the vigilance, professionalism, and commitment of the police in the ongoing fight against crime and insecurity. It further called on security agencies across the country to intensify efforts at securing the immediate release of schoolchildren and teachers who remain in captivity, noting that every day spent in the hands of abductors deepens the anguish of the affected families and represents a painful wound on the conscience of the nation.
