Police bust drug hideout in Delta, arrest 30
Police Eagles Net operatives attached to the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday evening burst an illicit drug hideout at Midwifery Market, Okpanam Road, Asaba, and arrested about 30 suspected drug dealers in the vicinity.
The Guardian gathered that the suspects were arrested in collaboration with other security agencies and government stakeholders in what is called a “successful sting operation.”
The operation, which lasted hours, it was further gathered, was prompted by credible intelligence reports about the notorious criminal hideout where illicit drug activities were ongoing day and night, causing significant distress and harm to other people in the area.
During the operation, 30 individuals were arrested for their involvement in the illegal drug trade.
According to reliable sources, the suspects, who were desperate to escape arrest, fled into the nearby storm drainage along Okpanam Road but were arrested during the operation, which was tactically executed with “precision and diligence.”
Speaking on the incident, Wong Box Lead Activist for the Young Nigerian Rights Organization, Comrade Victor Ojei, said the swift and coordinated efforts of the police and government stakeholders led to the apprehension of the suspects who are currently in police custody.
He added that the operation would serve as a clear message to all and sundry that the Delta State Government and its security apparatus are committed to eradicating the menace of hard drug peddling and other criminal activities across the state.
While assuring that the government will continue to take decisive actions to guarantee the safety and well-being of all Deltans, the activist declared that the arrest would serve as a strong deterrent to those who believe that engaging in such illegal activities is “business as usual.”
He, however, appealed to all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities to build a more secure Delta State.
When contacted for confirmation, the police image maker, Bright Edafe, said, “Yes, we raided the areas, arrested about 30 of them, and they are currently being screened at the police headquarters to authenticate their level of involvement.”
