Police confirm abduction of Catholic priest in Imo, intensify rescue efforts

The Imo State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of an Imo-based Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu.

Spokesperson for the Command, Henry Okoye, in a statement yesterday, disclosed that Ubaechu, was kidnapped on Ejemekwuru Road, Oguta Local Council of the state.

He said: “The Imo State Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible for the abduction of Rev. Fr. John Ubaechu along Ejemekuru Road in Oguta Local Council on Sunday, March 23, 2025.”

On the efforts to rescue the victim, Okoye, said: “An intelligence-driven operation is also underway to facilitate the possible rescue of the Catholic priest.

“The Command urges the public to assist in the investigation by providing any relevant information. Such information can be reported to the nearest police station or communicated via the emergency lines at 08034773600 or 08158024755.”
