Attempt by factions of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW), Osun State chapter to cause mayhem in Osogbo, on Monday through forceful takeover of motor parks have been thwarted by the operatives of Osun State Police command

Suspected thugs loyal to the two factional chairmen, namely Nurudeen Alowonle and Kazeem Oyewale, popularly known as Asiri Eniba engaged each other in a gun duel, which caused tension and disruption of commercial activities around Old Garage area of Osogbo as traders and passerby scampered to safety.

However, timely intervention of Police quelled the clashes as the hoodlums were dispersed by the security agents, who fired several warning shots to restore normalcy.

This was just as Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale, condemned the violence, called on the security agencies to arrest Asiri Eniba and other alleged All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs, who he claimed led the attacks on motor parks.

According to the statement, “the governor condemned a repeated shootings and scaring of innocent residents at old garage and motor parks at Osogbo and decried a situation where police allegedly provided cover for Asiri Eniba and other APC thugs involved in the disruption of public peace.

“I have personally called the attention of the Inspector General of Police and other service chiefs to these open attacks on public peace. I demand immediate arrest of Asiri Eniba for this open defiance of public security act.”

The governor who questioned what manner of protest will target innocent commuters at motor parks said his administration may review its support for NURTW at Osun motor parks.

“I believe the Alowonle leadership of Osun NURTW will call its people to order. If this Asiri Eniba’s disorderly conduct continues, our government may be forced to revert to the Park Management System across Osun motor parks”, Adeleke remarked.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Osun State Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the development but assured that normalcy had been restored.

He added no causality was recorded neither any arrest had been made in connection with the attack as of the time of filing this report.
