The Rotary Club of Isolo, in collaboration with the Inner Wheel Club of Isolo, has reinforced efforts to improve maternal and child health through the donation of equipment to Isolo General Hospital, Lagos, as well as essential items to pregnant women and nursing mothers.

The outreach, held as part of Rotary’s Maternal and Child Health Project for the month, featured the presentation of baby care materials and hospital equipment aimed at reducing preventable illnesses among newborns.

President of the Inner Wheel Club of Isolo, Oluwatoyin Edu, described the partnership between both organisations as a demonstration of their shared commitment to community service.

She encouraged pregnant women to prioritise their health and that of their babies by following professional medical guidance.

Similarly, President of the Rotary Club of Isolo, Adetutu Kamiyo, said the initiative aligns with Rotary’s yearly calendar, which runs from July to June, noting that maternal and child health remains one of the organisation’s core areas of focus.

She explained that the club chose Isolo General Hospital for this year’s intervention after conducting a similar programme at Isolo Health Centre last year.

According to her, the items donated by the clubs include diapers, bedspreads, mackintoshes, a blood pressure machine and tables, with a total value of over N1 million.

Kamiyo disclosed that the project marks the beginning of several humanitarian activities planned for the Rotary year, adding that next month would focus on membership development through a seminar for prospective members in Isolo and neighbouring communities.

She also urged expectant mothers to strictly adhere to medical advice, particularly on the management of neonatal jaundice, warning against harmful traditional practices such as exposing babies to sunlight or administering unapproved remedies.

Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of Isolo General Hospital, Dr. Adeolu Arogundade, commended the gesture, describing it as a worthy contribution to government efforts aimed at improving maternal and child health.

He said communities thrive when mothers and children enjoy adequate care and support, urging more individuals, corporate organisations and philanthropic groups to complement government investments in the health sector.

Also speaking, Consultant Paediatrician, Dr. Ayodele Renner, advised expectant mothers to seek prompt medical attention for babies with jaundice and avoid self-medication or reliance on myths.
