Traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway was brought to a standstill for several hours yesterday after a seven-vehicle crash occurred at Kara Bridge, inward OPIC, causing a major obstruction on the busy highway.

The accident, which occurred in the early hours of the day, involved a 40-foot container truck without a registration number, a Toyota Hilux marked BDG-422XY, an interstate bus with registration number GBY 784XY, a Hyundai Odyssey marked AAA 48BP, a Sienna without a registration number, a Toyota Highlander marked EKY 491HB, and a Mitsubishi Hilux with registration number JJJ 977JT.

Preliminary findings by emergency responders indicated that the container truck developed a mechanical fault while in motion, causing the driver to lose control before the truck rammed into the six other vehicles.

The impact left the affected vehicles obstructing the carriageway and triggered an emergency response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

The agency said its LRT Tiger Squad stationed at C3 was dispatched at about 6:05 a.m. following a distress call and arrived within the projected response time.

LASEMA, working with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), immediately deployed traffic control measures to prevent further accidents and protect other motorists.

With assistance from private towing operators, the damaged vehicles were recovered from the carriageway and moved to the roadside, allowing traffic to gradually resume.

Fortunately, no death or injury was recorded in the crash.
