Troops rescue abducted soldier, civilian in Zamfara

Troops of Sector 2, Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma  (JTF NW OPFY), have successfully rescued two kidnapped persons, a soldier and one civilian during a fighting patrol in Zamfara State.

The rescue operation occurred on the morning of 29th July 2026, when troops deployed at Gwashi were conducting a fighting patrol at a terrorists’ enclave in the area.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force North-west OPFY, Lt. Colonel Aliyu Danja and made available to newsmen in Gusau, the State capital.

According to the statement, during the patrol, troops rescued one Lance Corporal Basiru Labbo, who was abducted on 22 July 2026 along Zuru–Anka road, as well as Lauwali Dan Ada, a civilian from Kasahola Village, Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the State.

“The rescued persons have been evacuated to troops’ location, where they underwent debriefing, medical evaluation, and other necessary administrative procedures”, he added.

“Operation Fansan Yamma remains committed to sustained offensive operations and rescue efforts aimed at protecting lives and restoring security across the North West.”
