The Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the 9 Brigade Command, Ikeja, have conducted a joint inspection of construction projects within the Brigade Command Headquarters in Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos.
The team, led by LASBCA General Manager Gbolahan Oki and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Matthew Oyekola, discussed the critical importance of collaboration in achieving excellence in urban regeneration and sustainable development.
Stressing the government’s commitment to safety and urban development, the LASBCA General Manager highlighted that even restricted areas such as barracks and other locations would not be excluded from the ongoing implementation of the State Government’s development policy.
The LASBCA head commended the GOC for his cooperation and collaboration, noting that the Command’s urban renewal and development policy aligns with the State Government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Development Agenda.
Oki assured the Brigade Commander that his agency would continue to collaborate and work closely with all relevant Federal Government agencies and institutions to ensure that everyone benefits from the ongoing reforms and safety policies.
“We appreciate your cooperation and collaboration towards urban regeneration, which is in line with the state government’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus development agenda,” Oki stated.
In response, Oyekola pledged his readiness to work with the state government, citing the need to address traffic congestion caused by security checks at the 9 Brigade Command entrance.
He also expressed his appreciation for Oki’s sense of humour and dedication to duty, presenting him with a commendation letter from a retired General who had previously benefited from the GM’s assistance.
During the inspection, Oki advocated for the issuance of a Certificate of Completion and Fitness for Habitation for a completed building, demonstrating the agency’s commitment to ensuring that all construction projects meet the required standards.
The General Manager further noted that the agency has been diligently working to identify and remove non-conforming, illegal, and distressed buildings across the state to safeguard life and property.
“As the Lagos State Government continues to prioritise urban regeneration and development, LASBCA remains committed to ensuring that all construction projects adhere to the highest standards of safety and quality,” he added.
