Woman, 35, arraigned over alleged POS fraud

The police in Lagos have dragged a 35-year-old woman, Tawa Adigun, before an Ojo Magistrate’s Court in Lagos, for allegedly obtaining by false pretences.

The defendant appeared in court on a two-count bordering on obtaining false pretences and stealing.

She. however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Esther Adesulu told the court that the defendant committed the offence in October 2023, at the Shibiri area of Ojo, Lagos.

She alleged that the defendant unlawfully obtained the sum of N500,000 from one Olaide Yusuf, under a false pretext of using the same to start up a Point of Sale (POS) business for the complainant.

The prosecution alleged that the defendant never fulfilled her presentation to the complainant but converted the money to her use and stole it.

The offence contravenes the provisions of sections 287 and 314(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs A.M. Alade, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Nov. 5, for mention.
