Woman arraigned over alleged cyberstalking of Eleganza MD

Judicial verdict

A 35-year-old woman, Ifeoma Vivian Nwafor, was yesterday arraigned before the Federal High Court, Lagos, over alleged cyberstalking of the Managing Director of Eleganza Industries Limited, Mrs Folashade Noimat Okoya.

Nwafor was brought before Justice Dipeolu on a three-count charge filed by the Inspector-General of Police, bordering on conspiracy and alleged cyberstalking.

The prosecution alleged that Nwafor conspired with others still at large and used Instagram to publish offensive, false and malicious material concerning Okoya.

Okoya is the wife of the Aare of Lagos, Chief Razaq Akanni Okoya, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Eleganza Group of Companies.

Nwafor, a graduate of Oduduwa University, Ipetumodu, Osun State, and indigene of Orumba North Local Council of Anambra State, pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to her.

The case, marked FHC/LAG/CR/819/2026, was prosecuted by the Legal Department of the FCID Annex, Alagbon, Ikoyi, Lagos, under the supervision of CSP Adewuyi Taiwo Oyewale, Officer in Charge of the department.

Stanley Nwafoaku appeared for the prosecution, while O.J. Aduwa represented Nwafor.

After her plea, the prosecution urged the court to remand the defendant in custody pending trial.

However, Aduwa applied for her release on bail pursuant to Sections 35(4), 36(1) and 36(5) of the Constitution, assuring the court that she would be available throughout the trial.

The prosecution said it would not oppose the bail application.

Justice Dipeolu subsequently granted Nwafor bail in the sum of N3 million, with two sureties in like sum.

The judge ordered that the sureties must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and that one of them must be a blood relation of the defendant.

They were also required to provide evidence of three years’ tax payment, their National Identification Numbers and photographs, and depose to affidavits of compliance.

Nwafor was equally directed to depose an undertaking to make herself available for trial.

Justice Dipeolu adjourned the case until November 8 for trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Service pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions.

In the first count, the prosecution alleged that Nwafor and others still at large conspired in June 2026, around the Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos, to commit a felony.

It alleged that she participated in publishing material through the Instagram handles @cutie_juis and @truestorieswithifeomafans, with the intention of causing “annoyance, injury, fear, intimidation, enmity and/or needless anxiety” to Okoya.

The prosecution further alleged that photographs of Okoya and defamatory material concerning her were published online.

The alleged offence was said to be contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Law of the Federation.
