The Yobe State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a 55-year-old man, Hamidu Ali, who allegedly killed his wife with a machete in Babangida, Tarmuwa Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday. He said the attack occurred around 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, at Koriyel Village.
“Hamidu Ali, aged 55, attacked and macheted his wife, 40, to death for reasons yet to be determined and fled the scene,” the statement read.
Police operatives have since begun efforts to track down and arrest the suspect.
In a separate incident, police arrested two men for allegedly killing an individual over an accusation of phone theft in Ngalda Town, Fika Local Government Area.
According to Abdulkarim, operatives of the Fika Divisional Police Headquarters arrested Musa Sule, 25, and Muntari Suleman, 30, on Friday, June 27, in connection with the killing.
“The suspects were accused of murdering a victim over allegations of stealing a mobile phone and power bank. Both have confessed to the crime and are under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police in Yobe State, Emmanuel Ado, urged residents to seek peaceful resolutions to disputes and to avoid taking the law into their own hands.
“We appeal to the good people of Yobe State to promote peaceful conflict resolution and support law enforcement agencies in maintaining peace and order in their communities,” he said.
