Navy strengthens collaboration with Police to tackle insecurity

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Beecrooft and the Police in Lagos have resolved to strengthen collaboration in crime fighting and intelligence gathering. They disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Commander of NNS Beecroft, Commodore Paul Nimmyel, to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
Nimmyel said that his visit was to formally introduce himself following his assumption of duty as the new Commander of NNS Beecroft.
“Having just come on board on February 6, I find it expedient to pay a courtesy visit not only to the Commissioner of Police, but to other security agencies in Lagos, which formed the security architecture of the state,” he said. Nimmyel stressed that his visit was aimed at deepening cooperation between the command and the Nigerian navy in tackling security challenges.
According to him, the Navy’s primary task is to ensure that the waterways and sealine of operation in Lagos and part of Ogun and Ondo state are secured so that economic activities can thrive for the nation to prosper. He noted that securing the society is a collective effort, which the police or Navy alone cannot address.
“The basic thing about security is that you cannot do it alone, you have to work in synergy with other security agencies.
“This is because we all have our different training fields, but collectively we can secure our society and make it a safe haven for everybody.”
“Without adequate security, economic activities cannot thrive, we need to make the state safe so that people can go about their daily businesses.
“I am here to tell the commissioner that he has my full support.
“Secondly, to thank the Nigeria Police for all the assistance it rendered to us and plead that more should be given and vice-versa,” he said. Responding, Jimoh thanked Nimmyel and his team for the visit.
The police commissioner assured him that the meeting would further strengthen the existing collaboration between the Navy and the Police in their joint security efforts.
“I want you to know that the cordial relationship that existed before my arrival between the Lagos Police Command and the Navy will be further strengthened.
“This is to ensure we achieve our ultimate goal of securing Lagos state and all areas under your jurisdiction,” he said.
A key highlight of the visit was the exchange of plaques between the two offices, symbolising the deepened partnership between their respective agencies.
