The North East Development Commission (NEDC) is training select youths across the six North East states on fabrication of efficient climate-friendly stoves and briquettes.

While opening the five-day training, yesterday, in Bauchi, NEDC Head of Environment and Natural Resources, Adamu Lawal, stated that another objective of the training was to turn waste to wealth and create jobs for the youths.

“Many graduates are out there, but there are no white-collar jobs for them to do. That gave birth to this project to train them on fabrication of the energy-efficient stove.

“The stove, which model was borrowed from India, is environment-friendly. The trainer was in Kenya where he emerged the best in West Africa for fabrication of the stove. We felt it is a good idea to train our youths to produce and sell it to earn a living,” he said.

Clean-Climate Limited and Global Xpedient consulting firms were engaged to train the beneficiaries for five days in Bauchi State.
