Nigeria Supreme Court on Monday affirmed the election of Kano state Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.

The judgment by a five-member panel led by Justice Sylvester Ngwuta dismissed the appeal by Abba Kabiru-Yusuf challenging the election of Ganduje in the March 9, 2019 governorship election.

A Court of Appeal sitting in Kaduna had initially ruled that the suit filed by Kabiru -Yusuf and his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) lacks merit.

The five-man panel of the appellate court the appeal in its entirety and affirmed that Governor Ganduje was validly elected.

The Supreme Court verdict on Monday was similar to that of the Court of Appeal. The apex court held that Kabiru-Yusuf and his party did not demonstrate that the concurrent judgments of the tribunal and Court of Appeal were perverse.
