Former Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has scored President Bola Tinubu high for laying a solid foundation for Nigeria’s economic growth.
Okowa spoke highly of Tinubu on Saturday when he reflected on his decision to switch camps to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the former governor, he left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the APC all because he had “seen the light.”
The PDP vice-presidential candidate for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election said his joining the ruling APC was driven by a conviction that the current administration was taking the tough, structural decisions needed to repair decades of economic decay in Nigeria.
“You all know in 2023 I was on another ticket, but I have seen the light, and I have seen that what Mr. President (Tinubu) is doing in Nigeria is the right thing to be done,” Okowa said at the APC Presidential rally that was held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
“I, along with my governor, crossed over to APC long ago to join hands with Mr. President because he is truly building a new Nigeria,” he added, saying previous political leadership undermined the nation’s foundation through populist but fiscal policies like the petroleum subsidy regime.
“When the foundation is broken, you cannot do anything,” the APC senatorial candidate in Delta North said.
“Mr. President realises that the foundations of Nigeria have been broken by successive administrations. And today, we are on the right course because that foundation is being put right.”
