No proof Makinde worked for Tinubu’s victory in Oyo, says ex-officio
The National Ex-officio (South-West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Bunmi Oriniowo, has said that there was no proof that the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, actually worked for the victory of the presidential candidate of the party, Bola Tinubu, in the just-concluded election.
He said that the governorship candidate of the party, Senator Teslim Folarin, would win the Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
The former Minority Leader of the Ekiti State House of Assembly maintained that the APC has enough supporters in Oyo State to have won the election for Tinubu, irrespective of the alleged support by Makinde.
Oriniowo, who stated this, yesterday, at a media briefing in her country home Ifisin-Ekiti in Ido-Osi Local Council of the state, added that the APC would record landslide victory in Lagos, Ogun and Oyo states.
“As the national ex-officio of the party representing the South-West, it is my firm belief that we will win the three states where the governorship election would take place on Saturday. We will win with a landslide,” she said.
“In Oyo State, the person contesting is a known politician and I believe we will carry the day.
“Despite the alleged support of Governor Seyi Makinde to our presidential candidate, I still believe that my party should win the governorship. If anybody is in another party and works for my party, well, people in APC will still vote for APC. People in the other party too will vote for their party. I cannot say that APC should go and vote for PDP because a governor allegedly supported us. How do we know that he actually supported us?
“We have a lot of party supporters in Oyo that were already working for Tinubu. This was demonstrated when he was there to campaign. He couldn’t step down from the vehicle because of the mammoth crowd that came to welcome him. There are many people who are not card-carrying members of APC but are ready for the emergence of a Yoruba man as President.
“So, if they are laying claim that Makinde worked for the success of our party, there is no proof that he actually did. We have a lot of supporters in Oyo that could have delivered for the party, irrespective of the governor’s contribution,” she said.
