The National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Kano State has urged religious leaders in the country to intensify their preaching for peace.

The call is contained in a statement issued on Friday by Mr Olayinka Olawore, the Public Relations Officer of the agency in the state.

The agency stressed that without peace, no meaningful development could be achieved in any society.

According to it, religious leaders have a great role to play in restoring peace to troubled areas of the nation.

NOA said their most critical role was to assist in the de-radicalisation of those who had been made to imbibe extremist views.

‘’Our religious leaders can serve as appealing voices to aggrieved citizens who believe that their interests had not been protected in the federation over the years,” it said.

It said that religious leaders could help such aggrieved persons understand that while they had the right to ventilate their discontent, there was the need for them to do so through lawful means.
