NYCN faults Arewa Youth call for Abiodun, Mbah’s impeachment

The National Youth Council has faulted the Arewa Youth Assembly over its call for the impeachment of Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, over issues within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF), describing the move as misplaced and counterproductive.

Speaking on the development yesterday, the National Vice President of the Council, Comrade Kehinde Olorunjubelo, said youth groups should not be dragged into internal party matters that have no bearing on the welfare of young Nigerians.

Olorunjubelo stated that youths should not dabble in the politics of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, warning against allowing disgruntled political elements to bastardize the youth constituency for partisan interests.

He argued that the PGF is an internal APC structure with its own mechanisms for resolving disputes, adding that using the name of northern youths to pursue partisan agendas undermines the credibility of youth advocacy nationwide.

He urged young people to focus their energy on issues that directly affect their future.
“Youths should be involved in serious national issues rather than criticizing something that is not worth it,” he said.

According to him, the priority issues for Nigerian youths include unemployment, insecurity, education, and economic hardship — areas where coordinated advocacy can produce meaningful change.

“Dragging youth groups into PGF disagreements distracts from these pressing challenges and reduces the youth constituency to a tool for political actors who lack the courage to fight their own battles,” he added.

He called on youth organisations to remain independent, focused, and committed to holding leaders accountable on policies that impact young Nigerians, rather than allowing themselves to be used as proxies in intra-party conflicts.
