The Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC) is set to convene hundreds of delegates from across Nigeria to deliberate on developments affecting the bloc, including the participation of its more than 10 million members in the 2027 general elections.

The discussions will form part of the organisation’s Regional Executive Council (REC) meeting scheduled to hold from September 14 to 16 at Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church Galilee Land, Orile-Igbon, Oyo State.

According to a statement, delegates will exchange views on the need, direction and modalities for the participation of OAIC members in the 2027 elections.

The election-related discussions are expected to focus on how the bloc can mobilise its large membership and encourage responsible participation in the democratic process.

The REC meeting is a required part of OAIC’s organisational activities and provides a platform for representatives of member churches to review developments affecting the organisation and its wider constituency.

The main deliberations on the 2027 elections are scheduled for Tuesday, September 15, under the leadership of OAIC Regional President, Elder Israel Akindadewo, FCA, PhD, MTh.

Representatives of several member churches are expected to attend the meeting, including Christ Holy Church, Eternal Sacred Order of Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide, Cherubim and Seraphim Movement Church, Motailatu Church Cherubim and Seraphim Worldwide, Celestial Church of Christ and Sacred Cherubim and Seraphim.

Representatives of the Women Wing and Youth Wing of the organisation are also expected to participate in the gathering.

The planned discussions come as political parties, civil society organisations, religious bodies and other stakeholder groups begin preparations for the 2027 general elections.

For OAIC, the meeting will provide an opportunity to consider how its extensive membership can participate meaningfully in the electoral process while contributing to broader conversations around civic responsibility and democratic engagement.

With more than 10 million members reportedly spread across its constituent churches, the organisation represents a significant constituency whose participation could attract attention as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.

The three-day REC meeting is expected to also consider other developments affecting OAIC and its member churches, alongside the discussions on electoral participation.
