Obidient Movement launches ‘Governance Watch’ to boost civic engagement

In a fresh effort to deepen political consciousness, strengthen grassroots structures, and advance its push for accountable leadership, the Obidient Movement has launched a new civic engagement platform titled Governance Watch.

The newsletter, described as “insightful, unifying and solution-driven,” was announced by the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, in a public statement on Thursday.

The initiative aims to serve as a rallying point for citizens, particularly supporters of the movement, to track governance trends, share critical ideas, and offer policy-driven solutions toward achieving a New Nigeria.

“Governance Watch is not just a publication; it is a platform for national unity and civic reawakening,” Dr. Tanko stated.

“Through it, we will enhance our collective resolve for selfless leadership based on integrity, competence, capacity, character, credibility, compassion, and people-centered development.”

The publication is the first of its kind by the Obidient Movement and is expected to be circulated digitally and through grassroots networks nationwide.

It will feature content on public accountability, electoral reforms, social justice, civic education, and inclusive policy advocacy.

Dr. Tanko commended the Director of Strategic Communications and Media of the Obidient Movement, Nana Kazaure, and her editorial team for the successful rollout of the maiden edition.

“This marks a significant milestone in our movement’s political and media history,” he said.

Also speaking, Nana Kazaure emphasized that Governance Watch will help amplify the voices of everyday Nigerians who yearn for a responsive and transparent government.

“This is a platform for both reflection and action. We invite all citizens of goodwill to contribute ideas and participate in shaping the kind of country we want,” she said.

The launch of Governance Watch comes amid growing calls from civil society and political reform advocates for deeper citizen participation in governance and accountability, particularly ahead of future elections.

The Obidient Movement, which rose to national prominence in 2022 through its support for former presidential candidate Peter Obi, continues to champion civic mobilization and democratic renewal across the country.

Dr. Tanko concluded his message with a resounding reaffirmation of the movement’s mantra: “A New Nigeria is POssible.”
