A simple birthday message by former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has ignited widespread reactions on social media, with many Nigerians contrasting Obi’s gesture with Soludo’s silence during Obi’s own birthday celebration last week.

Obi, in a brief but gracious message released on Tuesday, congratulated the governor on his birthday, praying for good health, wisdom and God’s continued guidance as he leads Anambra State.

“I warmly congratulate the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, on the occasion of his birthday.

“As Governor Soludo marks another year today, I wish him good health, strength, wisdom, and God’s continued guidance.

“May this new year of your life bring you peace, fulfilment, and abundant blessings.”

The message, though routine in tone, quickly gained traction online, where many users described it as a demonstration of political maturity and personal civility despite the well-known political differences between the two prominent Anambra figures.

The reactions were largely fuelled by comparisons with Obi’s birthday last week, when Soludo did not publicly issue a congratulatory message—a move that had already drawn criticism from some supporters of the former governor.

Among those reacting was X user @Shadowwwalker1 (Temitope), who praised Obi’s disposition, writing:
“You no even get time to keep malice with anyone. Whether they wish you good or not, you are always a good person. A politician who conquered greed to the point that others are angry that you are above greed.

“You don’t even care if they throw shit at you, you still find a way to wish them well. God bless your Excellency @PeterObi.”

Another social media user, Meg Eboma, suggested that Obi may not even have noticed Soludo’s earlier silence, posting:

“He may not have taken notice that Soludo didn’t wish him birthday greetings.”
