The Executive Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr. Oluseyi Jakande, marked his first anniversary in office on Monday, August 17, 2026, with the unveiling of a landmark ₦500 million Mega Empowerment Programme aimed at driving sustainable growth and community development.

Addressing community leaders, traditional rulers, political stalwarts and residents at the council secretariat, Dr. Jakande reflected on his administration’s achievements over the past 365 days, attributing their success to a commitment to governance that goes beyond promises to deliver visible impact.

“Today, we are not merely celebrating one year in office; we are celebrating one year of action, service and measurable impact,” Jakande stated, emphasizing that the administration’s progress has been driven by its HEWA Agenda, focusing on Health and Environmental Sustainability, Education and Empowerment, Works and Security, alongside Agriculture, Tourism and Culture.

The centerpiece of the anniversary celebration was the launch of the ₦500 million intervention scheme. Key components of the package include:

₦250 Million Interest-Free Loan Scheme: Tagged ILE-OWO, the initiative offers zero-interest loans designed to boost small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and local entrepreneurs.

Also, over 600 residents graduated from a comprehensive three-month skill acquisition program covering trade areas such as shoemaking, catering, fashion design, electrical and solar installation, and advanced ICT courses (including full-stack web development and data analysis). Beneficiaries were presented with equipment and start-up tools.

The empowerment initiatives included the allocation of nine commercial buses to qualified residents, financial grants for small business owners and designated support for 302 Street Assistants.

Highlighting accomplishments under the HEWA Agenda over the past year, the Chairman noted significant strides in infrastructure, healthcare and education.

“ We completed 18 road and drainage projects, including Ibadan, Muibi, Danmegoro and Industrial Crescent Streets with four additional road projects currently underway.

“We official commissioning of the Kayode Primary Healthcare Centre, implementation of Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system to enhance efficiency and the enrollment of 1,500 residents into a fully subsidized medical health insurance scheme.

“We rollout Back-to-School initiative, providing learning materials to public primary school pupils, distributed free GCE forms and bursaries, and continued the Jako Jollof Initiative, which provides weekly nutritious meals to primary school pupils to boost attendance.

The anniversary event drew praise from prominent political figures and community members.

Senator Ganiyu Solomon commended the council chief for his dedicated service, urging the loan and tool beneficiaries to maximize the resources provided.

Lagos State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, lauded the council’s holistic approach to governance. He noted that interventions in education, healthcare, and human capital development would drastically reduce local unemployment.

A beneficiary, Ege Prisca, speaking on behalf of the graduating vocational trainees, expressed gratitude for the free intensive training, noting that the acquired skills and tools would provide sustainable livelihoods for the beneficiaries.

Closing his address, Dr. Jakande reassured residents that the achievements of his first year represent only the baseline of his administration’s vision for Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye LCDA, pledging continued focus on functional infrastructure and economic prosperity for all.
