Ogun committed to changes in water sector

Ogun State Government has restated its commitment to accelerating positive changes in the water sector, in order to ensure adequate water availability and sanitation for all in line with the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6.

The Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, who gave the assurance during a stakeholders forum, with the theme, ‘Accelerating Change,’ held at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said to make change possible in the sector, stakeholders and government must make critical diagnosis of issues affecting the sector and proffer practical and sustainable solutions.
 
Oresanya also commended some of the stakeholders, especially companies who have embraced water stewardship and were executing initiatives and projects towards sustainable water management and governance in the state.
 
He said their efforts would greatly contribute to the state’s government desire at accelerating the desired positive change in water and sanitation sector.
 
Delivering a key note address, Managing Director of Ogun-Osun River Basin Authority, Otunba Olufemi Odumosu said providing access to safe water is one of the most effective instruments of poverty alleviation and reduction, stating further that the theme for this year’s World Water Day emphasises the need to speed up action towards sustainable management of the water resource with just seven years left to achieve the SDG.
