Ogun goverment assures IODs of land to build zonal headquarters
Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has promised to offer land for the construction of zonal headquarters for Institute of Directors (IOD) to be situated in Abeokuta, the state capital.
Abiodun made the pledge when the President of the institute, Chief Chris Okunowo, led the executive members of the IOD Abeokuta branch on a courtesy visit to the governor’s office.
The governor, who is a fellow of the institute, commended the leadership skills of Okunowo, as well as the choice of Iyalode Alaba Lawson as Chairman of the Abeokuta branch, which oversees other states in the South-West.
Abiodun immediately directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Tokunbo Talabi, to commence process for the allocation of the land.
The entourage of the IoD President include Dr. (Mrs.) Ije Jidenma, the 1st Vice President, who is to take over from Okunowo whose two-year tenure expires in few weeks time, Alhaji Tijjani Borodo (2nd Vice President), Iyalode Alaba Lawson (Chairman, Abeokuta Branch), Toyin Sogbesan (Secretary, Abeokuta Branch), Chief Bode Mustapha, Dr. Femi Majekodunmi, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji (member), Alhaji Wasiu Olaleye (member) and Damola Ade-Onajobi.
The IoD President, earlier in his address, said that the institute is the apex professional body in Nigeria with a mandate to cater for and represents directors in their individual capacities across the various sectors of the economy.
“It has made significant and highly impressive strides, working closely with government, corporate organisations, bilateral chambers and diplomatic missions to raise the standard of corporate governance and leadership in the private and public sectors. This, in turn, has attracted worthy and qualitative members to the institute,” Okunowo said.
The institute leader said that the body was committed to its cardinal objective of sharpening the professional skills of directors, technocrats, top level civil and public servants through its internationally-recognised development programmes.
