Ogun mobilises LGs On clean, safe environment
Ogun State government has promised to collaborate with the 20 Local Government Areas to achieve a clean and safe environment. Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya, disclosed this when he paid a working visit to the Chairman, Caretaker
Committee of Ijebu-Ode Local Government, Engr. Olugbenga Olugbile in Ijebu-Ode
Oresanya said the councils must synergise with the state government on the sensitisation of their residents, especially market leaders and traders on the need to keep their environment and drainage channels clean.He also counseled them on the need to employ sizeable number of sweepers to clean the inner streets in their localities to complement government efforts, as well as support the Residential
Refuse Collection Programme of the state government, aimed at eliminating illegal dumping of refuse.
The Special Adviser further encouraged the local governments to enact their own Environmental Bye-Laws to promote public hygiene, which is an integral component of the Sustainable Development Goals 6.
He also announced that Recycling Plants would be sited in some local governments to provide employment opportunities for the women and the youths while enjoining Chairmen of all the councils to take ownership of the new waste management reforms within their localities for a clean and safe environment.
