Ohakim tasks Imo residents on killings, condemns Gulak’s assassination
• Says Political Leaders Should Eschew Differences, Find Solution
Former Imo State Governor, Dr. Ikedi Ohakim, has warned that the mounting death tolls of Nigerians either in the hands of criminals or unscrupulous state actors, now poses an existential question to every Nigerian.
He stated this in a statement where he condemned last Sunday’s assassination of former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ahmed Gulak, on his way to board a flight at Owerri/Imo airport.
Ohakim urged the citizens to resolve that no life shall be lost again in their state in the same circumstances and that the solution to this mode of untimely deaths must be found now.
The former governor, who also enjoined his fellow political leaders to eschew all partisan differences or personal animosity, said they must come together in search of lasting peace.
He advised youths to ensure their individual and collective survival by distancing themselves from every demeanors that are capable of endangering their lives or making them vulnerable to the conduct of either criminals or ill-tempered security operatives.
To the heads of the security agencies, the ex-governor
said they should “take extra steps to restrain their field operatives from seeing their fellow human beings as instruments for achieving professional competence or advancement.”
According to Ohakim, “the killing of Alhaji Gulak on Imo State soil amounted to ‘Aru’ (an abomination).”
