Residents of Ikare-Akoko, headquarters of the Akoko North East Local Council Area of Ondo State, have hailed the Chairman of the Local Government, Olawale Mohammed, for facilitating the installation of street lights along the busy Ikare federal highway through a collaboration with the Ondo State Ministry of Works.
The intervention, which now casts bright illumination over one of the heavily patronised transport corridors in the Northern Senatorial District of the state, drew commendation from motorists, traders and community leaders who have long decried the dangers posed by poor visibility after dusk.
According to the residents, the street lighting project is expected to not only enhance road safety but also boost local commerce, as businesses along the corridor can now operate later into the evening with renewed confidence in the security of the corridor.
Meanwhile, in a statement by the Special Adviser of the Chairman on New Media, Abiola Agun, the administration appreciated Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his responsive leadership and support in making the project a reality.
Agun, who emphasised that the Chairman had personally ensured that the project met the highest standards of quality and durability, stated that “His Excellency’s (Aiyedatiwa) willingness to support interventions that directly impact citizens demonstrates a government that listens, responds and prioritises the needs of the people.
Agun Abiola further noted that the Chairman commended the collaborative spirit of the Ondo State Ministry of Works, whose technical expertise and coordination proved instrumental in navigating the logistical challenges of installing lighting infrastructure along a busy federal highway.
“The intervention further underscores the Chairman’s governance philosophy of pursuing practical, visible projects that directly improve the daily lives of citizens, rather than embarking on grand but disconnected initiatives that fail to address grassroots realities.
“Rather than working in isolation, Alh. Mohammed Mutiu Olawale has consistently leveraged constructive partnerships with the Ondo State Government and its relevant ministries to attract and facilitate interventions that complement the local government’s development agenda.
“The successful installation of the street lights is therefore not merely about illuminating a major highway; it reflects purposeful leadership, effective inter-governmental collaboration and a sustained commitment to improving the quality of life across Akoko North East.”
