Residents of Irese, Aaye and Ikota communities in Ifedore Council of Ondo State have threatened to shut down the Akure office of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), following 10 months of an outage.

Residents of Irese, Aaye and Ikota communities in Ifedore Council of Ondo State have threatened to shut down the Akure office of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), following 10 months of outage.

The residents, who lamented the continued outage in their communities, said the situation had stifled and impeded economic growth in the areas.

In a protest letter, at the weekend, to the Regional Manager of the BEDC, Akure, the residents said the outage had increased insecurity in the three communities.

REACTING, the spokesperson of the BEDC, Mr. Michael Barnabas, blamed the blackout on the activities of vandals but assured that power would be restored to the areas before Christmas, saying the electricity company has been working round the clock to ensure power is restored to the three communities.

He said: “I can assure you that power will be restored to the communities before Christmas. The outage is due to the activities of vandals and we have taken some measures to check the development. We have been working to restore power to the areas and very soon, the residents will smile. They should just exercise a little patience.”
